Lab conditions vs. Real life

There are numerous scientific papers on aquaponics hydroponics and aquaculture out there if you try to use them as your start point you will end up with a system that works perfectly under lab conditions and may or may not work in real world conditions. This is because scientific research is done on one topic in isolation This is ment as a guide not as real world application.

Most successful aquaponic system have more or less replicated the UVI system let’s call that first generation.

If your system design is made easy to decoupled it will be alot easier to achieve faviourable results

Decoupled is better

only fish require constant water moving so it would be more efficient to use wicking beds for plants over DWC that require energy usage especially at night witch can increase the usage of batteries power. It is very important to know how to select the best possible pump in your system.
Good filtration means have to dump some of the concentrated water with the solids. put that in with plants and add new water to the fish. only going fully circulation when you need to drop the dissolved manure.

Raw manure hardly comes into contact with your plants or only when you want it too.

because of your offline mineralization.

Automation is good

Automated water quality testers While not necessary, are nice to have however reliance on these should be discourage i think that in mother nature the handeling of these things are natural and no one takes care of it because it is balanced and if you balance your system using science and the right hardware you will have very little to do.

Hardware design is based on science but what is important is that aquaponics is like cooking in that you can start small and add until you have the right amount.
